Food Service Creates Healthy Appeal
Principal
Mary Pierce is rallying everyone together to reach kids
and families with healthy messages and better nutrition
at A.V. Norrell!
- Cafeteria
staff are creating excitement on “Lucky Tray
Day” with random trays chosen for a prize
-
Kids are grabbing the popular new “Panda pack”
offered for sack lunch which contains a combination
of the following:
- Meat
or cheese on bread or crackers
-
Fresh vegetables with low fat dip
-
Fresh or canned fruit
-
Baked chips or low fat crackers
-
Milk
-
Teachers are receiving ideas for non-food incentives
and are using healthy popcorn & movie or pizza
party reward for their “Hard Working Hornet
Award”
- Community
agencies, such as Jr. League and Communities in Schools,
are tapped to help reach families with evening events
-
Parents are attending the evening events that include
a free, nutritious, TASTY meal
In
addition to working to increase participation in school
meals, Mary is on the school district committee formulating
the wellness plan for next year and is looking ahead
at the impact these policies will have on everyone!

A Step or More Each Month
AV
Norrell students, staff, parents and community are “getting
on board” by encouraging a small, healthy change-at
least once a month.
- The
cafeteria bulletin board features a “Fruit of
the Month”.
- Students
look forward to tasting specially ordered fruit, courtesy
of the food service manager!
- Teachers
are enjoying a Pilates class.
- The
Health Department provides a free "Rock Richmond"
exercise class for all.
