Linking with the Community
Juggling
academic test preparation and healthy activities, the
teaching staff is receiving lesson plans, display items,
and information on the Food Trust program (which provides
nutrition education services to communities through
seasonal farmers’ markets and school markets)
as the result of their Drexel partnership.
The
entire school has been involved in the planning for
an April Health Fair with events for all ages:
- American
Heart Association demonstrating the difference between
muscle and fat tissue
-
Health Department taking blood pressures
-
Parent volunteers leading physical activities
-
Kids having a Hoops/Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser
Reaching
everyone at a health fair with healthy messages can
be a 3-ring circus! It’s a wonderful way to bring
various groups together to focus on the health of kids!
Partnering Provides Support
A
Drexel University partnership provides Rudolph Blankenburg
Elementary School a project coordinator to build KidLink
team excitement and awareness!
- Teachers
are learning new, innovative ways to teach classroom
nutrition messages
- HKC
materials are being used as guides to teach kids how
to make healthy snack choices
- Students
put their knowledge into practice by choosing the
healthy snacks offered in the snack bar and on “Healthy
Snack Wednesday”.
Drexel
University and Rudolph Blankenburg Elementary are a
great example of a partnership that provides training
opportunities to help build healthy habits for a lifetime.
As the KidLink team expands, incorporating key stakeholders,
Blankenburg’s plan is to add more activities and
programs that teach and support others in making healthy
choices a habit!
