  • Youth Leader Activities - Use fun props, like this extension agent, to teach kids healthy habits - "Kids Jump into Health".

  • Youth Program-wide Ideas - Replicate a county librarian's ideas to incorporate healthy eating and physical activity messages into the youth community program - "Library Promotes Healthy Change".

Holiday Tips for Family Gatherings

  • Focus on conversation versus food. Spend time talking and keep your hands busy with a glass of water or low calorie beverage.
  • Keep yourself occupied with helpful tasks for relatives; that is, moving chairs or setting the table, to prevent over eating due to boredom.
  • Be sure to play with the kids! They will keep you entertained, moving, and help burn off those extra calories eaten.

Funding Opportunity

Welch's Harvest Grants 
Deadline: February 6, 2010
In partnership with Scholastic, Welch's Harvest Grants aim to help teach the value of sustainable agriculture and healthy eating through K-8 grade school gardens. Hands-on experiences with planting, tending, and growing gardens provides children a dynamic setting for learning.
