Healthy Balance

Healthy behaviors are the desired outcome at Healthy Kids Challenge. We always begin with that end in mind.  Imagine a balance scale with healthy behaviors hanging on one side and unhealthy behaviors on the other side.  Your school or youth program may start with a very unbalanced scale- with unhealthy outweighing the healthy behaviors, or anywhere in between.  Beginning with the end in mind, we want:

  • increased fruit and vegetable intake
  • increased physical activity
  • breakfast as a regular habit
  • healthier snack choices
  • healthier drink choices
  • smart serving sizes
Then we start where you are - hanging anywhere in the balance - and tailor our assistance to tip the scale in favor of your needed healthy behaviors.  Getting from point A to point B is a process that we work on together.  Often it takes a little work on improving knowledge, skills, and attitudes, and a lot of flexibility! 

In fact, we may not reach the desired healthy behavior until the timing is just right; instead, a more POSITIVE attitude toward that behavior may develop first.  Remember to shoot for the moon.  Even if you miss, you'll still land among the stars, right?  And the scales still tip a little further toward health!
