No Time Like the Present For Healthy Solutions

HEAR  Help people hear the healthy message

Recently, the U.S. Surgeon General released her Vision for a Healthy and Fit Nation 2010.

"Every one of us has an important role to play in the prevention and control of obesity. Mothers, fathers, teachers, business executives, child care professionals, clinicians, politicians, and government and community leaders—we must all commit to changes that promote the health and wellness of our families and communities."-- Regina M. Benjamin, U.S. Surgeon General

Healthy Kids Challenge is proud to be a leader in the movement to make that vision a reality. For the last 10 years, the HKC focus has been on simple effective solutions. We challenge you to take a simple action today!

SEE  Show people HOW to make healthy changes

By practicing it yourself, help people see the change you are suggesting.

DO  Help people practice and make healthy changes

Try some of these everyday activities to make a healthy difference!

  1. Start with YOU! Eat an extra piece of fruit or raw veggies at lunch each day. Go for a short, brisk walk. Focus on what YOU can do to improve your health!
  2. Make healthy changes at home. Take your kids to the grocery store and have them pick out fruits/veggies they want to try. Read food labels and choose products with less fat and sugar. Commit to a family walk on the weekends.
  3. Influence others you lead. Take your youth group or classroom walking as you discuss plans or practice spelling words. Bring water bottles, or fruit/veggie snacks to staff or inservice meetings.

Here are tools HKC uses to help schools, communities and businesses take action for kids to eat, move, and enjoy a healthy balance:

  • Get outside and play catch, romp in the snow, shoot baskets, or take a walk.
  • Inside the house dance to music, jump rope or practice some simple stretches.
  • Try a new veggie or fruit.
  • Drink more water by making it more available in the car, after school and at meals.
