Fun with Healthy Snack Preparation at Lane County Library

Directions:

1.   Divide the group into teams of 4-6 kids.
2.  Give each team a food label and approximately 20 cardboard squares.
3.  Ask teams to read the label to find the grams of sugar in one serving (assist younger kids as needed) and count squares to equal that number.
4.  Explain 4 squares represent 1 teaspoon (1 tsp) sugar.
5.

Ask: “How many teaspoons of sugar are found in each serving of their food?”

6.  Ask teams to set up a “display” with labels and squares for other teams to see!
