Make a healthy SPLASH with a Drink Think. Choose water or low fat milk more often.

Activity Idea: Think Water as a Beverage Choice

Description: The library staff provides an interactive session that connects literacy and drinking water
Grade: K-5
Supplies:
  • A copy of the book, “Drinking Water” by Mari C. Schuh
  • Bottled water to give each child

Directions:

  1. Prior to the activity, obtain a copy of the book, “Drinking Water” by Mari C. Schuh.
  2. Gather the kids around for story time. After reading, discuss the benefits of drinking water such as keeping our bodies healthy and cool; and how to drink more water in the day like at the drinking fountain, and with snacks and meals.
  3. Hand a water bottle to each child to encourage water drinking.

Optional:

  1. Provide handouts of the Family Water Wise Tips downlodable to encourage water drinking habits at home.
  2. Set up a display table with the DVD, “H20hhhh” starring the OrganWise Guys Characters.
