Directions:
- Prior to the activity: a) obtain a copy of the book, “I.Q. Gets Fit”. Download and b) make copies of selected fruit and veggie activity sheets for all the kids.
- After gathering the kids around for story time, talk about book care, and then tell the kids you will read a story about taking care of them, called “I.Q. Gets Fit”, by Mary Ann Fraser. After reading, encourage discussion. Reinforce healthy eating based on the messages from the book.
- Hand out fruit and veggie activity sheets and encourage kids to work on them at home promoting the message, “more matters” when it comes to eating fruits and veggies.
- As a challenge for home and with the help of parents, ask kids to identify a fruit or veggie that is unfamiliar to them, go to the grocery store to locate and purchase that food item; then help prepare, serve and taste the unfamiliar food.
