| Description: |
Kids take money out of the bank while performing physical movement and practice money counting skills. |
| Grade: |
1-3 |
| Supplies: |
- different colored bean bags (or index cards)
- paper and pencils (or dry erase boards and markers)
- Hula Hoops (or box) for bean bags
|
|
Directions:
- Prior to the activity, assign each bean bag a monetary value.
- To begin, spread all the bean bags throughout the middle of the playing area. (This is the bank.)
- Divide kids into groups, giving each group a pencil and paper and a Hula Hoop. (This is their bank account.)
- Instruct kids that on signal,
- one player from each group uses a motor skill ( i.e. skipping) to move into the bank and retrieve a bean bag.
- players return to their group and place the bean bag in their bank account.
- the next player moves into the bank repeating the above motor skill.
- Activity continues until all the money from the bank is gone.
- Instruct kids to use paper and pencil or dry erase board/marker to total the money they have in their bank account.
Option: Increasing the monetary value of the bean bags makes the activity more challenging for upper level kids.
