Activity Idea: Plan a One-Day Meal Plan

A healthy apple makes a great snack at Maude Trevvett Elementary

Directions:

1. Before beginning the activity, show an example of the MyPyramid for Kids Poster and locate the fruit and veggie groups.
2.  Ask kids to identify examples of fruits and veggies.
3.  Ask kids if they can think of ways that they could eat different kinds of fruits and veggies at school or home. Examples: slices of lettuce and tomato on sandwiches, or sliced bananas or berries on cereal.
4. Write their ideas on a blackboard or flipchart.
5. Send home the group’s ideas.
6. In a note to the family, explain what the group is learning and challenge families to:
     a. talk with their kids about the ideas
     b. try new fruits and veggies in the week that follows
