Happenings
Winter 06
Following
the Kansas Kids C.A.N. training, Chrysanne Grund, Project
Director, said, “This was the best workshop I’ve
ever been to!” Eager to share C.A.N. resources,
she created and distributed an inventory list to local
KidLink organizations, encouraging them to collaborate.
When Greeley County Health Services partnered with Syracuse
Elementary School for their MacGyver Day, AWE-some ideas
for C.H.A.N.G.E. (Connect Health And Needs, Get Excited)
were invented! Chrysanne described simple actions designed
to get kids from one clue to the next, and said, “All
the kids were EXCITED, INVOLVED, and ABLE to participate
in the physical activities.”
KidLinks
from both programs teamed up again in April for an interactive
Diabetes, Obesity, and Healthy Body Image session at
the Syracuse Elementary School’s Children’s
Health Fair. Kids took part in timed activity events
on one side of the room, while their parents got simple
healthy tips from a nurse practitioner.
A
partnership with Wallace County Grade School tied literacy
with simple nutrition messages. Classes read books like
“Gregory the Terrible Eater”, and discussed
favorite snacks and favorite activities. Then they took
the challenge to get 5 A Day of fruits and vegetables
for a week, with apples for prizes.
Greeley
County Health Services knows teaming up with other KidLinks
means that all kids C.A.N.!
