Healthy Kids Learn Better When They Have
Breakfast and Active Play Every Day!
Studies show breakfast eaters tend to have healthier weights and better concentration at work or school.
Breakfast has Power – GO Power, BRAIN Power, and HEALTH Power.
Breakfast gives GO Power at School!
Try this Class Activity Idea: Planning Breakfast Menus (A healthy breakfast includes foods representing at least 3 MyPlate groups.)
-
Across a white board, list headings for the following MyPlate food groups: Fruits-Vegetables-Proteins-Grains-Dairy
-
Ask kids what foods they like to eat for breakfast. For each response, have the class call out the appropriate food group. On the board, list the responses under the correct food group(s). Eating veggies for breakfast is puzzling for some kids. Give examples, like salsa on eggs or green peppers in omelets.
-
Work in groups or as a class to use the items listed on the board in planning breakfast menus that include at least 3 different food groups.
