Ready, Set, Cook, Eat

Ready, Set, Cook, and Eat™ (RSCE) brings healthy eating and cooking to life in a fun and entertaining way.

Taste of Chicago 2010

At this year’s Taste of Chicago Family Village, the words readyset---cook kicked off delicious ideas and healthy fun! Del Monte sponsored this Healthy Kids Challenge Ready, Set, Cook and Eat™ event.

The event’s message was Breakfast GO Power. To begin the fun, three teams comprised of one adult and 3 kids chose names like “Delicious”, “The Hot Plates”, and “The Cooks”. Each team was given a “surprise" bag of groceries and asked to create an appealing healthy meal.

While the teams were cooking, the audience provided their own creative breakfast ideas and had fun with the edu-tainment. Del Monte beach ball prizes reminded everyone to balance healthy eating choices with physical activity.

Ready, Set, Cook, and Eat™ (RSCE)

Each 4 person team is given a surprise sack of food supplies, simple cooking equipment, kitchenware, and 30-45 minutes to prepare a tasty, healthy dish.  With adult team leaders, kids (over age 10) on teams learn while having fun.

The healthy message selected for the event determines the teams’ ingredients. As food preparation is taking place, an MC is interacting with the audience to:

  • provide quick healthy tips
  • engage them in a food trivia contest
  • lead a little fun physical activity

Audience participants go home with healthy eating tip sheets and ideas for their own use.
