Snack Attack!

Kids blurry eyed midmorning at school? Too tired to play at recess? Are kids vocalizing hunger when arriving at the after school program? What role can you play as a leader for kids?

Healthy snacks give kids fuel to learn, grow and GO! Good snack habits include planning, variety, smart serving sizes, and replacing high fat, high sugar snacks with more healthy choices.

If you’re responsible for snacks in the classroom, after school snack planning, or youth group snack time, include fruits and veggies, whole grains, low fat dairy, and lean protein in your Snack Attack choices. Frozen mini-waffles with peanut butter spread, a whole grain flour tortilla with low-fat cheese and veggie salsa, or whole grain cereal and low-fat milk with sliced bananas are yummy examples of tasty, healthy Snack Attack foods!

Stay on top of the Snack Attack with kids. 1.) Discuss MyPyramid and healthy choices. 2.) Let kids help create the snack plan 3.) Set snack times. 4.) Learn how much.
