Walking and Non-Food Rewards are Winners
Physical
activity is making a big splash at Swansboro Elementary
School on many venues.
The
Principal’s walking club reports they have increased
their endurance for walking and other activities! A
poster contest highlighted the physical activity benefits.
Kids and adults will be starting free water aerobics
classes in March at the adjoining pool that’s
shared with the city. The PTA jumps in with a Cake Walk
– with dancing – for kids and parents.
The
teachers are diving in with active toys, stickers, free
time, and “gotcha” coupons from their school
store for footballs, basketballs, race cars and more
as non-food rewards. Alice Perry, School Nurse, says
there are more physical activity and nutrition games
used in the classroom; and parents have been supporting
the activities outside the class room day.
It
takes just one small stone to start a ripple effect
and Swansboro is ready to ride the wave of healthy messages!
Fun Incentives Encourage Participation
Swansboro’s
KidLink team is ready to roll into a busy semester!
Students, staff, and parents are moving in the right
direction with:
-
Healthy lifestyle presentations by cafeteria manager,
P.E. teacher, and school nurse
-
Motivating healthy messages on the healthy happenings
bulletin board
- Keeping
fit in the “Keep Moving” and “Principal’s”
walking clubs
Everybody’s
on track having set their goals for healthy eating and
physical activity:
Strive
for 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day
Choose
smaller portions of sweets and fried foods
Get
moving!
Celebrating
these winning actions keeps everyone on the go! Kids
go bonkers over tiny, plastic feet (Toe Token) while
logging in every mile they walk. Semester awards planned
include water bottles, drinking cups, jump ropes, and
finishing with an end of year sherbet float and physical
activity party! The incentives encouraging healthy lifestyles
are solicited from business partners.
Earning
recognition makes sailing into a fit lifestyle fun for
all at Swansboro Elementary!
