Activity Idea
Try one of HKC's monthly activity ideas, generally targeting K-5th grades. Ideas are taken from one of the HKC teacher-youth leader activity idea booklets or an idea submitted by a school or youth program. Most are appropriate for the classroom, after school programs, or anywhere kids are found!
In addition, we’re excited HKC has just received a Kansas grant to help libraries strengthen the link between reading, healthy eating and physical activity for preschoolers! So each month, also check for a preschool activity idea and book suggestion, like the one below!
Reading, Smart Eating, Moving...Balance My Day Pre-Schoolers Fruit & Veggies - Every Day the Tasty Way
-
Read the book, From the Garden: A Counting Book About Growing Food by Michael Dahl. Vivid illustrations help teach counting with foods grown from a family garden.
-
Develop interest in veggies by growing an indoor window garden. Use quick growing radish and lettuce seeds. After the appropriate growing time, harvest the plants and taste the results.
