Collaboration Builds Success

Collaboration’s key for Wagner Middle school as they introduce nutrition education into their middle school. Their Drexel University alliance, using USDA’s Nutrition Education Program (NEP), supports several nutrition messages. Currently School Nurse, Joanne Packer, hosts a weight gain prevention program for 6th grade girls.

Drexel University Health Educator, Karin Saargard, says “We are all striving towards the same goals and can certainly help each other along the way!”

Setting Healthy Goals

Motivating and beneficial describes the partnership with Drexel University Nutrition Center that is the spring board for Wagner Middle School’s Showcase program.

Strategies chosen to help students, staff, and families dive into wellness changes:

  • Increase nutrition knowledge
  • Encourage healthier food choices using classroom education
  • Utilize healthy social marketing messages
  • Implement environmental change
  • Encourage increased physical activity

Wagner’s making a big splash with the health and well being of their students and their families.
